Aaaahhhh...FALL. Our favorite time of the year. But then again, so is spring and summer! Winter? Not so much!
With the arrival of fall, things take a dramatic turn in downtown Vermilion. The tourists have left. Folks are, generally speaking, back to work and not hanging out in our beloved V-Town just lookin' to kill time. And for resident Vermilionaires, it's a time to take a deep breath and enjoy the quiet solitude. September and October are that tiny spot of time between the summer chaos (I mean ... it is ... really. Just so busy and so many people!) and the November/December holiday season of hustle and bustle. For merchants, it's a time to kick things up a notch and ready their stores for the holidays.
For me, it's a time to hit the road to see my clients. Don't get me wrong, I love my summertime friends. Over the years, I've made so many! I've met people from all over the globe...people who come back to V-Town every year (sometimes multiple times each year). But Fall marks the transition back to my normal … where I spend the other 9 months of the year. It's a time for me to reconnect with my core client base. Since they too are all back from their summer holiday outings and ready to get back to it.
But I know ALL TOO WELL that it can be crazy frustrating if you've planned a trip to town because you want to come see me and you've had it on your to-do list to pickup that tee-shirt or jacket, or to inquire about that custom order. So while I cannot just sit and wait and hope that you show up, I CAN offer you an appointment to meet with me privately so that we can work on your order in peace and quiet. I can show you samples, help you to decide on the particulars of your order and guide you through the process. In fact, I much prefer to take this approach (and you will too) because it gives your transaction the proper amount of time and attention (which you deserve). Otherwise, if coming to meet me at my place isn't convenient, I'm happy to come meet with you at yours.
But not to worry if you're looking to make a retail purchase, because we're Open for Business at our Liberty & Main location EVERY Saturday throughout the Fall Season and we'd love to see you. Make no mistake, there is still MUCH to see and do in Vermilion, even AFTER the summer months are in the past. Everything from the Ferry to the Farmer's Market may have buttoned up for the season, but the merchants are alive and well, and they've stocked up with plenty of merchandise to offer for your holiday shopping pleasure. Brummer's Chocolates are ALL THE RAGE (I'm not kidding either...its' good stuff. Try those Salted Caramels. They are my personal favorite). And Charl is the keeper of Treasures Galore in her Encore Resale and Vintage shop (Charl has recently added art to her offerings as well). And of course, Lora is waiting for you with a big smile at the Burning River Boutique. And that's just to name a few.
Saturdays are always a bustle in downtown V-Town. Be sure to come on down and check it out!
What's Ashley thing about here? She's dreaming of Saturdays at Liberty & Main Vermilion! Ashley joined us this October and will quickly become a familiar face behind the glass and curtains here at HighPoint's Liberty & Main location.
So who is Ashley? Well, she's one of our beloved models...but that's not all! When she's not modeling or helping out on Saturdays, Ashley is busy working full time as a PCNA (that's a Patient Care Nursing Assistant) at the Cleveland Clinic OR she's keeping herself immersed in microbiology studies, while she earns her RN, BSN (Nursing Degree).
And when she's not busy doing all of THAT, she's a Dog Mom to Reba and Evelyn, my two Grand--dogs (I call them the Cheese Dogs...lol).
Please join me in welcoming Ashley to Liberty & Main Vermilion...and have a look at her adorable little Cheese Dogs. You might even see (or hear...arf arf arf) them when you stop in!
Miro Gear was a strong-seller at Woolly Bear - so we had to make more! Hoodies up to size 5XL and Crewneck Sweatshirts up to size 3XL are now IN STOCK and ready for sale. You can order through the VPD K-9 Unit Facebook page directly (see pic below for address) and Miro's Handler, Sergeant Scott Holmes will take care of you. OR...you can purchase Miro Gear at our Liberty & Main location. Rest assured, the proceeds for this effort go directly to the VPD K-9 Fund. We're open every Saturday from 11am - 4pm.
We setup shop for the VPD K-9 Unit outside of our store for Woolly Bear 2018, offering VPD K-9 Supporter apparel, featuring our very own VPD K-9 Unit, MIRO! This is the 4th printing of Miro apparel since the spring Coffee with a K-9 event held at Huggy's Social House. Folks continue to line-up for Miro gear so we'll keep printing it.
A few months ago, Scott Holmes, Miro's handler, partner and dad, asked us to design a tee-shirt for Miro to help raise a few bucks. We were honored to participate and jumped right in. We started by conducting a photo-shoot with Miro and from there, our own Scott (not Miro's dad, Scott, but our own in-house digitizer and design-magician Scott) went to the task of turning that photo into something special (not that a photo of Miro isn't special enough!) Miro apparel is also available in-store during our Fall 2018 Saturdays Only shopping days. Come on in and grab it up before it's gone! Makes a great holiday gift. It's cash only...and the proceeds fund the VPD K-9 program. It's a whole huge community to support the K-9 program. Let's keep it going!
Have you ever heard the expression that talks about how the painter has no time to paint his own house? Well it's pretty much the same when you're in the shirt business. Except not this time! I recently had the opportunity to make shirts for a 5K for my very own high school class reunion. Western Reserve Class of 1982. We had a blast...as we always do. Special thanks to the late Tom Petty for being our inspiration this year. It's so true. "If you don't run, you rust."
We recently had the opportunity to sponsor the STAFF shirts for Vermilion's own recently remodeled Skate Spot. The Skate Spot (it's a SPOT vs a PARK because of its smallish size). The Skate Spot, which is under the wing of the Vermilion Parks Board, was in a terrible state of disrepair and desperate for a much-needed rehab. This project was not for the faint of heart. It was a monumental effort on the part of so many folks but in the end, they got it done! The guy on the far right in the photo, he's the real hero. He worked tirelessly for 6 weeks to nearly rebuild every ramp in the park. Thanks Jim for a job well done!
But they're not stopping there! The BIG Vision is for Vermilion to build a world-class destination skate park that measures more than 20K SF. A giant concrete bowl that will draw athletes from around the country! Better take your vitamins, Jim, cause you're gonna be really busy with this one!
We're SOOOOOOO close to being done with this remodel and I, for one, will be thrilled to see it all wrapped up. There's so much more new stuff coming. You might have noticed the new logo (just a soft launch...no hoopla). It's a throwback to the old logo (back to my beloved red and black). And the new website is coming along nicely (more on that in a future post).
The new-and-improved space at our Liberty & Main location still has some finishing touches to add, but all-in-all, getting this done in the midst of the tourist season (not to mention several festivals and 3rd Thursdays and Farmer's Markets) has been a challenge, but I'm thrilled with the progress we've been able to make.
Just a few more weeks and we can take the sign down!
